Phase Three: The Materials
During the planning phase of your remodeling project you, with the help of your designer/contractor, will choose all the new materials that will be a part of the completed project. For instance, if you are remodeling a bathroom, you will need to choose what type of tiling you want, shower head, tub, toilet, vanity, mirror, etc… There are more than 35 different products that can be selected for a bathroom remodel alone!
All of these materials, including the ones you may not have thought about, such as electrical equipment and plumbing, need to be ordered and will take some time to come in. While some products are readily available, your contractor will usually have to order some of the unique components that you want, such as a high-end faucet or whirlpool tub.
Gathering all of these materials can take anywhere from a week to a few months for very rare or specialized materials, such as hand-made cabinetry or tile only made in India. Once you have a plan in place, your contractor should be able to give you a good idea about how long you will need to wait for materials.
The waiting game can be frustrating. You’ve just spent a lot of time choosing a great contractor and planning out all the details of your remodeling project. You want to get started! We all understand this feeling, but take this time to prep the room or rooms that will be remodeled (your contractor can tell you how to do this), to put the finishing touches on the plan, and to get in some relaxation time. You’re going to need it when the actual remodel gets started.
